What is a pendulum?

Pendulums help keep time on clocks, pendulum motions are used to sooth babies in a swing, and pendulums are often pictured as tools to hypnotize someone. So, what exactly is a pendulum?

There are two answers to this question.  The first is the scientific/physics view of a pendulum – a pendulum is a something of weight connected to a fixed point and allowed to freely swing back and forth with gravity.  The text book definition offered by Webster dictionary is, “a body suspended from a fixed point so as to swing freely to and fro under the action of gravity and commonly used to regulate movements.”

If you are on this site, that is likely not exactly the definition of a pendulum you were hoping for.

Pendulums as a tool are also incredibly useful for helping you make decisions.

How can a pendulum help me make a decision?

Pendulums can help you make a decision two ways.  One way based on the power of your subconscious.  It is well known that the subconscious holds higher intelligence than what your waking, every day mind can access.  In fact, your subconscious runs 95% of the show behind the scenes while the part of our mind we use in learning, creating, conversing, doing daily tasks, etc is running only 5% of the show. The idea of a pendulum accessing your subconscious, where higher intelligence lies, is that when you ask your pendulum a question,  your subconscious already knows the answer.  The answer gives off a certain vibration that flows through your fingertips in microcurrents and moves the pendulum.  Your subconscious can be difficult to access – deep meditation, hypnosis, and working with a psychotherapist are some ways but those entail time commitments and outside expertise.  A pendulum, on the other hand, can access this powerful aspect of higher intelligence much more quickly.

The other school of thought as to how a pendulum gives you answers is that your higher guides, teachers, ascended masters, and loved ones join you to guide the pendulum to the answer that is in your highest good and the highest good of all involved.

Regardless of which school of thought resonates with you, you are getting an answer from a place other than your rational, analytical mind which clouds the picture and is likely the reason you’re consulting your pendulum in the first place!
